IRA Charitable Distributions
If you’re 70½ or older and have a traditional IRA, you may be able to make a tax-smart gift directly from your retirement account, called a Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD.
Here’s how it works: you ask your IRA custodian (the bank or brokerage that holds your account) to send a check directly to Big Britches. The money goes straight from your IRA to us, it never passes through your hands. That’s the key requirement.
Why it matters:
∙ The distribution is excluded from your taxable income, which can be more valuable than a standard deduction
∙ If you’re 73 or older, a QCD counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution for the year
∙ The 2026 limit is $111,000 per person
One important note: Because of IRS rules, we cannot offer any benefit in exchange for a QCD gift, no complimentary tickets, no perks of any kind. If you receive any benefit, the tax advantages are affected. We appreciate your understanding.
